植物乳桿菌為圓端直桿菌，通常為0．9～1．2vtm×3．0～8.0μm，單個、成對或短鏈狀。通常缺乏鞭毛，但能運動。革蘭氏陽性，不生芽孢。兼性厭氧， 表面菌落直徑約3mm，凸起，呈圓形，表面光滑，細密，色白，偶爾呈淺黃或深黃色。屬化能異養(yǎng)菌，生長需要營養(yǎng)豐富的培養(yǎng)基，需要泛酸鈣和煙酸，但不需要硫胺素、吡哆醛或吡哆胺、葉酸、維生素B12。能發(fā)酵戊糖或葡萄糖酸鹽，終產物中85%以上是乳酸。通常不還原硝酸鹽，不液化明膠，接觸酶和氧化酶皆陰性。能產生DL一乳酸，有1，6～二磷酸果糖醛縮酶和單磷酸己糖途徑的活性，能在葡萄酸鹽中生長，并產C02。發(fā)酵1分子的核糖或其他的戊糖生成1分子的乳酸和1分子的乙酸。15℃能生長，通常最適生長溫度為30～35℃。

生長條件溫度：37°C氣氛：5％CO2
傳播程序
1.根據隨附的說明打開樣品瓶。
2.使用＃416肉湯（5至6 mL）的單管，用巴斯德或乙醇提取約0.5至1.0 mL
1.0 mL移液器。 將整個顆粒再水化。
3.將該等分試樣無菌轉移回肉湯管中。 好好混合。
4.使用幾滴懸浮液接種＃416瓊脂斜面和/或平板。
5.將管和板在37℃下孵育24小時。
