Comments:GSML is a B lymphocyte cell line established in 2000 by transformation of mononuclear cells from male squirrel monkeys with Epstein-Barr virus derived from B95-8 cells (ATCC CRL-1612).
The cells exhibit elevated expression of the FK506-binding immunophilin FKBP51. [56358 ]
FKBP51 is the common cause of glucocorticoid resistance.
Chromosome analysis of GSML cells confirm that they are from Guyanese squirrel monkey. [56357 ]
The Guyanese squirrel monkey and the Bolivian squirrel monkey differ in response to pathologic and pharmacologic stimuli.
Propagation: ATCC complete growth medium: The base medium for this cell line is ATCC-formulated RPMI-1640 Medium, Catalog No. 30-2001. To make the complete growth medium, add the following components to the base medium: fetal bovine serum to a final concentration of 10%.
Temperature: 37.0°C
Subculturing: Protocol: Cultures can be maintained by the addition of fresh medium or replacement of medium. Alternatively, cultures can be established by centrifugation with subsequent resuspension at 3 X 10 exp5 viable cells/ml. Maintain cell density between 3 X 10 exp5 and 3 X 10 exp6 viable cells/ml.
Medium Renewal: Add fresh medium every 2 to 3 days (depending on cell density)
Preservation: Freeze medium: Complete growth medium 95%; DMSO, 5%
