UPCI:SCC154 is a squamous cell line that was isolated in 1996 from the tongue of a 54-year-old, White male patient with carcinoma. The cells form islands and the monolayer does not become confluent. These cells are positive for Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) which is of interest to many researchers because HPV is a major etiologic factor for oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC). These cells have no TP53 mutations as assayed by sequencing the 5-8 exons of TP53 and showed no amplification of chromosomal band 11q13 using FISH. This cell line was deposited by S Gollin and can be used for studying the initiation, cancerization, prognosis, intervention, and treatment of oral cancers.
