化膿隱秘菌(Trueperella pyogenes)屬于隱秘桿菌屬，化膿隱秘菌原稱化膿棒狀桿菌(Corynebacterium pyogenes)、化膿放線菌(Actinomyces pyogenes)，1997年定名為化膿隱秘桿菌(Arcanobacterium pyogenes)，根據(jù)其16SrRNA的基因序列的分析結(jié)果，將其歸入隱秘桿菌屬更為恰當(dāng)。
形態(tài)與染色
化膿隱秘桿菌是一種，無莢膜和異染顆粒革蘭氏染色時著色不穩(wěn)定，這一點和鏈球菌相似。
結(jié)構(gòu)組成
菌體細(xì)胞壁的肽聚糖。與棒狀桿菌和紅球菌屬成員所不同的是，菌體細(xì)胞壁的肽聚糖不含有黏液酸。
生長特征
化膿隱秘桿菌是一種兼性厭氧菌，生長增殖需要營養(yǎng)較為豐富的培養(yǎng)基。在血瓊脂上培養(yǎng)40小時以上才能產(chǎn)生可見的菌落。最適生長溫度為37℃。產(chǎn)生的菌落透明，周圍有溶血，大小為1mm。
生化特性
熱（60℃）、可發(fā)酵乳糖、能消化蛋白質(zhì)（凝膠、酪蛋白和凝結(jié)的血清）。
抵抗力
對消毒劑和β-內(nèi)酰胺類抗生素敏感。對于磺胺藥具有抗性，而且對四環(huán)素的抗性逐漸增加。
