厭氧芽胞桿菌MH21，細(xì)胞呈直桿狀，0.5～2.5μm×1.2～10μm，常以成對(duì)或鏈狀排列，具圓端或方端。細(xì)胞染色大多數(shù)在幼齡培養(yǎng)時(shí)呈現(xiàn)革蘭氏陽(yáng)性，以周生鞭毛運(yùn)動(dòng)。芽孢橢圓、卵圓、柱狀、圓形，能抗許多不良環(huán)境。每個(gè)細(xì)胞產(chǎn)一個(gè)芽孢，生孢不被氧所抑制。好氧或兼性厭氧，具有對(duì)熱、pH和鹽各種多樣性的生理特性。化能異養(yǎng)菌，具發(fā)酵或呼吸代謝類型。通常接觸酶陽(yáng)性。發(fā)現(xiàn)于不同的生境，少數(shù)種對(duì)脊椎動(dòng)物和非脊椎動(dòng)物致病。厭氧芽胞桿菌MH21只有一個(gè)屬，稱梭狀芽胞桿菌屬（clostridium），簡(jiǎn)稱梭菌屬，革蘭氏染色陽(yáng)性，都能產(chǎn)生芽胞，芽胞直徑大多比菌體寬，使菌體膨大成梭形，故得名。芽胞的形狀和位置在鑒別上有意義。大多數(shù)須在嚴(yán)格厭氧條件下才能生長(zhǎng)，少數(shù)可在微氧環(huán)境中繁殖。
